Foodie Pen Pal For the Month of June

30 Jun

I am a foodie pen pal which basically means that once a month I get a box filled with culinary treats made specifically for me sent to my door (hmmm am I the luckiest girl in the world or what)?

Are you intrigued do you what to learn more about this food pen pal program, well allow me to inform you! Each month food blogger/readers and food lovers participate in the program. On the 5th of each month you get an email with your assigned foodie pen pal, it is your duty to find out as much as possible about your pen pal, their food preferences, allergies, where they live and then create a box filled with delicious treats specifically for them. The fun part is creating the perfect box for your pen pal, you can incorporate foods specific to your geographic location that your pen pal has never tried before or you can make them a special home made treat…..the only rule is you can spend no more than $15, an elements which adds to the challenge!

Each box is mailed out on the 15th of the month and at the end of each month everyone blogs about the goodies they received! The person you create a box for is not the same person who sends you a box, so it’s a super great way to meet fellow foodies and bloggers Wanna Learn More? Click Here!

My feet hit Boston soil this morning at 9:46 a.m. this morning, I had taken the bus back after deciding to go home for a relaxing weekend. However, I was now not feeling so relaxed in fact I was a bit frustrated I had woken up at 4:45 a.m. to get packed and ready for my 6:15 a.m. bus, which didn’t arrive until 6:40…already I knew this was not a good sign! The bus was scheduled to arrive in Boston at 9:00 a.m. but after the late arrival this morning and constant traffic we arrive about exactly 46 minutes later, which meant I now had to run home drop off my suitcase, unpack the plastic containers full of leftovers I had acquired during my short weekend at home, only to pack my school back and head off again to work and school! I was obviously in a bit of a rush when I got back to my apartment, so I hardly noticed the small box standing outside my door, however being preoccupied I ended up managing to trip right over it!

The minute I spotted the box my spirits instantly lifted, and I excitedly ripped open the box in anticipation!

Here’s what I found inside!

The first thing I spotted was a bag full of raw date bites mixed with a variety of nuts and seeds, delicious…….I was pretty much won over at one bite…..I love dates!

Next I was intrigued by the candy box topped with a yellow and white polka dotted ribbon! I opened up the box to find that Danielle had made me homemade chocolate cranberry energy bites, she even included the recipe!

They were delicious and very addicting, she informed that her son also love them and thought they were dessert dough balls, how cute is that!

Finally there was a bottle of Mississippi Wildflower Honey, pure heaven is the only way to describe this honey, it’s sweet and has an amazing aromatic scent to it, I can’t wait to start adding it to recipes!
So I think my box was pretty much amazing! Danielle did such a great job and absolutely went above and beyond! I can assure you that after receiving this box my day defiantly got a lot better!
I remember the first time Danielle had emailed me, she was so positive and upbeat and I hated having to disappoint her by telling her about my dietary restrictions (no grains, sugar, legumes, processed foods, or peanuts)…pretty much a sure fire way to get your pen pal to completely hate you! But surprisingly Danielle responded to my email with the same optimistic tone , she said she was up for the challenge and boy did she do good!
The thing I love best about this program is being able to meet so many great genuine , people I love learning about where they’re from, hearing their unique stories and I love learning about the foods people eat or choose not to eat! This is such a great program and I have met so many nice people  and it never ceases to amaze me just how far people are willing to go to go above and beyond to show a stranger they care, it’s a truly amazing feeling!

Kait! I’m so glad my timing was so perfect for your goodie box! And most importantly, I’m so glad you liked everything I sent. You said the sweetest things in your post, thank you for the kind words. I love getting the chance to meet fun new people, like you, and also being forced out of our comfort zones to discover some new products and gain a greater appreciation for all that is available.

I know the honey says Mississippi but I bought it because it said it was local from my area (Kentucky). I’ve never met a honey I didn’t love, so hopefully it will be great in your baking.

Enjoy and again, I’m so glad it was so well received (:
