The other day I found myself reminiscing and I realized what a huge difference a year can make.

Last year at this time I was living in Italy without a single care in the world, my biggest life dilemma was what flavor of gelato I should get. I didn’t work, homework and classes were a joke, and my daily routine consisted of going to the outdoor markets, improving my Italian, and doing a lot of sitting around at Italian cafes and people watching, and eating….I did a lot of eating!

I feel like every time I write a new blog post I start off with an apology, well once again I am sorry I haven’t been posting consistently but I have been very, very, busy.

Those of you who read my last blog post will remember that I was in the middle of what I considered to be a mini crisis, after all not having an apartment a month before you are required to move out of your current apartment can be quite stressful.

Well to update you all I have found an apartment (sigh of relief) and I actually just moved in two days ago, and oh what an adventure it was! Continue reading

It seems that I am really not doing too well with this whole blogging thing lately. I know, I know, I haven’t been posting consistently, but before you completely abandon reading my blog by thinking I am an unreliable blogger let me first tell you that I have been busy! Now before you go on thinking that me being busy is just some lame excuse, let me assure you it’s not, I honestly have been busy in addition to being in school and working full-time, I am now also in the very difficult process of finding an apartment for September 1st. So this is a post that is very long overdue, what can I say, I’ve been busy. In addition to being a student and talking classes (yes even in the summer) I am also a now full time working girl, meaning I essentially have no free time what so ever! On my days off I can usually be found doing several loads of laundry, grocery shopping, studying for my managerial accounting class, a subject which I have deemed impossible to learn, and just generally running around like a chicken with my head cut off.

Yesterday began as a beautiful, bright, sunny day but that quickly changed as news of two explosions at the Boston Marathon erupted, and quickly the day turned dark and depressing as the overall mood turned sad.

The day after marathon Monday is usually a proud day for runners, they walk around the city proudly sporting their medals and showing off their florescent marathon jackets, however today was a bit different in the city of Boston. The usually overcrowded and chaotic T was nearly empty this morning. Instead of a crowd awaiting the t platform, four armed police men stood there as they checked each individuals bag. Classes today were nearly deserted and those that did attend looked unfocused and disinterested. The usual face-paced, energetic Bostonians that walk the city streets were today replaced with somber faced people, confused, and quiet.

Back To Reality, And a Recipe for Homemade Gnocchi

So it’s been two weeks that I have been home in USA and although I still find myself wishing daily that I could jump on next flight back to Italy, I know that It’s time to finally face reality. Unfortunately reality for me means heading back to cold windy Boston, unpacking and repacking my life as I get ready to move into my new and unfurnished apartment, and going back to school for a full upcoming semester including 6 class (ughh)! Instead the idea of going back to the simple, relaxing, European life of lounging at a cafe just seems so much more appealing. Continue reading
